Wedding Cake Ideas

Well, I can't believe we have been blogging for some time now and have not yet spoken about cake, well wedding cakes. Tris has probably made some reference in the past to cake - not a day goes by and we are in need of cake or biscuits!

We had a meeting last night with a couple and the bride-to-be (Katie) was paying particular attention to a wedding cake in one of our sample albums so we thought it was time to post a few cake pictures and to mention a few words about wedding cakes. Like most things in life they come in all shapes and sizes and can be tailored to suits your requirments.

Most of the cakes we see (and sometimes try!) at weddings are tiered with 3 or 4 tiers stacked one upon the other. The cake is decorated to blend in with the theme of the wedding and personalised to the bride and groom. Sometimes there may be fresh flowers on the cakes, flowers made from icing, sometimes a model of the bride and groom and even thier pets made of icing proudly sitting on top of the cake! Often the cake is made by a professional but sometimes the bride and groom are lucky to have a cake made by one of their Mums, family member or friend.

Here are a few cakes we have seen recently to give you some ideas.

Traditionally the cake would have been a fruit cake but now people have sponge filling in either chocolate or vanilla and sometimes even a tier of each! The good thing about having seperate tiers is that you can cater for different tastes or even peoples dietry requirements such as nut or gluten free.

Occeasionally people do not have a wedding cake, they have a cheese cake. Oh yes, a cake made of cheese! Delicious! Here is Sophie and Brian's cheese cake together with a smaller wedding cake that they posed to cut for their guests.

Having seen a few cakes in our time we must mention one style we are always very impressed by, that is the French wedding cake known as a Croquembouche which translated literally means 'burst in your mouth'! If there is a french connection at the wedding then they are a popular choice or if the wedding is in France the French will never let us down as they rush out with a stunning cake light up with mini fireworks during the evening reception.

Watch your backs!

A sword may be advisable to assist in the cutting of the cake!

Whichever cake you decide is right for you, enjoy it and if you need anyone to sample it please let us know!
